This well-rounded program addressed issues and concerns impacting our regional nursing community and offered resources to empower nurses to address and resolve workplace challenges.

  • Elizabeth Schenk, PhD, RN, FAAN, Executive Director of Environmental Stewardship at Providence, provided concrete, data-supported examples of actions nurses and medical facilities can take to minimize environmental impacts related to health care.
  • Catie Harris, PhD, MBA, CRNP, a serial entrepreneur, inspired us with a personal story about her path to becoming an entrepreneur in the nursing field, and helped us connect the dots between nursing skill sets and business opportunity.
  • Keith Carlson, RN, BSN, NC-BC, a Board-Certified Nurse Coach, writer, and host of the “Nurse Keith” podcast, shared statistics on healthcare related violence and offered ideas to mitigate risk and improve workplace safety for individual nurses, as well as suggestions for organizational changes.
  • Moonwater, Executive Director of the Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center, provided practical conflict resolution strategies and tools for addressing unhealthy conflict patterns that one attendee described as being, “applicable to interactions with patients/families and with colleagues.”
